Working Families Party Rallies Against MTA Hikes

The Working Families party is getting into the fight against subway fare hikes - the first formal political response to the stalemate in Albany on an MTA bailout package. WNYC's Andrea Bernstein has more.

The Working Families Party was a major player in the democratic takeover of the State Senate last November, providing thousands of foot soldiers and hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democratic candidates. Now the party is launching a campaign against Senators who oppose the MTA bailout package. The party has created a website and what it's calling "an edgy mock-up" of the familiar orange-and blue MTA service change posters. "Service changes: all day, every day," the poster says across the top, and below that, in letters mimicking subway lines, WTF, which is also an abbreviation for a vulgarism. Party chair Dan Cantor wouldn't say if the party would challenge democrats in a primary next year , but a source familiar with the campaign says that was a possibility if the fare hikes go through.
